Does Marijuana Legalization Affect Work Capacity? Evidence from Workers’ Compensation Benefits

We study the effect of state recreational marijuana laws (RMLs) on workers’ compensation (WC) benefit receipt among adults 40-62 years. find that WC declines in response to RML adoption both terms propensity receive benefits and amount. estimate complementary non-traumatic workplace injury rates incidence work-limiting disabilities. offer evidence primary driver these reductions is an improvement work capacity, likely due access additional form pain management therapy.
